About Rachel

Rachel and Benny 3Rachel Nehme is a DONA trained birth doula practicing since 2012. Rachel was born and raised in New York City, graduated from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, and has lived in East Africa, Australia, and Europe. These unique experiences allowed Rachel to observe a common thread women all over the world share in their journey towards motherhood – a need to be empowered, encouraged, and supported in pregnancy and birth so they can feel confident and honored in their role as a mother.

Rachel cherishes diversity and values learning your specific needs for a fulfilling birth. She will be a peaceful, nurturing and attentive labor companion for both parents at a hospital, birth center, or home. Whether you plan a natural birth, a caesarean, or anything in between, Rachel will work with your family to explore all your birth options, help you address and process any fears surrounding the birth, and listen closely to your desires for your birth. At the birth, Rachel is attuned to you and your birth companion’s needs, perceiving when to offer hands-on support or when to fade into the background to give you focused and protected time with your birth companion.

Rachel received her DONA doula training by Austin midwife and doula Jessica Atkins. Rachel has also received specialized training in fetal positioning from nationally renowned midwife Gail Tully (Spinning Babies), as well as training for breastfeeding support and therapeutic use of essential oils  for birth professionals. Rachel was also nominated for Best Birth Doula from the Austin Birth Awards 2013. Rachel and her husband John love living in Austin with their baby daughter, Meira.
